No. 10 Konica Minolta Cadillac Dpi-V.R Team cruises along to 4 th place in the standings

Just what is a lucky number? This past race of the Daytona Prototype international division of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship coincided with the seventh day of the seventh month of the year, on top of being the seventh race in the series. Naturally, the No. 10 Konica Minolta Cadillac Dpi-V.R Team came in sixth place.

The 2019 Mosport Park race in Ontario, Canada went smoothly for drivers Renger van der Zande and Jordan Taylor. However, the past five visits to the Canadian Tire Motorsport Park in Ontario have resulted in podium finishes for the team. The race was won by Team Joest (Mazda), boosting the No. 10 Konica Minolta to fourth place in point standings, nineteen points away from the top spot.

The postrace sentiment was similar to that of the previous race at Watkins Glen (NY) International, where the No.10 Konica Minolta had a perfect performance, but ended in fifth place. While initially frustrating, the race was technically flawless, with no significant breakage or mishaps on the course. While keeping their ground between seventh and eighth place, van der Zande was able to speed into sixth after the final restart with ten minutes left. He stayed in that spot for the rest of the race.

Regarding the race, Taylor said “Going in, we knew we were racing for fifth, sixth, seventh, so we tried to get a little bit off strategy with fuel, which I think maybe could’ve paid off in the end if it went green all the way. So we’ll just leave with sixth-place points and go on to Road America.”1

Team owner Wayne Taylor added “As usual, everybody on the team did a good job. For Konica Minolta and all our sponsors, thanks to them we were out there trying to compete. That’s really all there is to say.”

The next round of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship is on August 4 at Elkart Lake in Wisconsin.
