Tommy Hilton Head Photography + Film Testimonial

Jumping from one career to another and starting it all in a new state isn’t the easiest path to go down, but that didn’t stop Tommy Calanni.

Calanni, originally from Ohio, started his career by creating music for TV, radio, and film commercials. He invested quite a bit of money into that business while also starting to do photography on the side. When he and his wife moved from Ohio to Hilton Head, South Carolina nine years ago, he had a choice to make: music or video/photography. “I left the music business behind and came here; I started from scratch,” Calanni said.

After starting his current business, TommyHiltonHeadPhotography+Film, Calanni found out fairly quickly that photography equipment and technology is constantly evolving, and if you don’t keep up with it, you’ll fall behind your competition. “I realized I needed to make a big investment into the business,” Calanni said. “I couldn’t do that without needing help.”

Like any knowledgeable business owner would, he started researching many different leasing companies when he came across Direct Capital.

Calanni needed to upgrade his computer and invest in a raid drive – and he needed it fast. For his first deal with Direct Capital, he needed three leases and a speedy turnaround. He said, “I’m a Type A personality; patience is not one of my virtues. These people really do what they said they were going to do; you have access to them.

“It’s a much more personal level than I thought it was going to be, which is a terrific thing. I always felt like I could get a hold of someone.”

In 24 months, Calanni was able to pay off his lease and make a profit. In fact, he said, he couldn’t have made that profit so quickly without the help of Direct Capital.

“They go the extra length to get me what I need when I need it,” he said. “That’s why I keep coming back, I won’t go anyplace else. I could not have built this business up without that.”
